More News on Harvest work (301)

Fruit Picking Southern Western Australia
October to May is the time when most harvest work is done in the southern half of Western Australia and at different times during these months large numbers of workers can be required.

Remember harvest work is subject to weather conditions and can change without notice.

The main harvest towns around the southern half of Western Australia are Donnybrook, Margaret River, Manjimup, Pemberton, Gin Gin, Albany, Carnarvon.

These towns all have some type of Workstay accommodation including hostels, farmstay's or caravan & tent camps.

Some jobs requiring less numbers of workers are available from May to October. This work can include vineyard pruning, tree planting & plant nursery work as well as ad hoc farm maintenance.

Donnybrook

Is a two and a half hour drive south of Perth and is one of Australia's premier apple growing districts. There are TransWA and SouthWest Coachlines buses to Donnybrook each day from Perth.

The area produces the famous granny smith and pink lady apples, premium class wine grapes, stone fruit and various other fruit and vegi crops.

Brooklodge is the regions best Workstay. Established by Mrs Wilson in 1980 it was the first dedicated workstay backpackers hostel in Western Australia and possibly even Australia.

In the late 1990's Bruce and Janine Wallace did a complete renovation of the old hostel and today new owners (Bruce & Lynne) continue to welcome, organise, transport and accommodate hundreds of working holiday backpackers each year. The hostel even has its own bar.
